Interstate 20 cuts across West Texas in a long, flat, deceptively interesting line from the DFW metroplex to El Paso. Most drivers see it as something to get through — but for RVers who know where to look, it's one of the most rewarding stretches of highway in the state. Here's how to turn a highway slog into a genuine adventure.

Key Stops Along the I-20 West Texas Corridor

  • Midland/Odessa — Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Odessa Meteor Crater, Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center

  • Monahans — the Monahans Sandhills State Park is an unmissable stop. Plan at least 2-3 hours. Overnight at Sealy Street RV Park.

  • Pecos — Home of the World's First Rodeo (really). Worth a quick stop for history buffs.

  • Van Horn — A classic West Texas crossroads town, good for fueling up before the long stretch to El Paso.

  • El Paso — End the drive with a visit to the Franklin Mountains State Park or a stroll across to Ciudad Juárez.

Why Monahans Is the Perfect I-20 Overnight Stop

Monahans sits almost exactly halfway between Odessa and Pecos, making it a natural overnight point on any I-20 road trip. You can pull off the highway, check into Sealy Street RV Park, spend the afternoon at the sandhills, grab dinner in town, and wake up refreshed for the road ahead — all for $40/night.

Road Trip Tips for West Texas

  • Never let your fuel tank drop below half west of Odessa — stations thin out quickly

  • Best driving months are October through April — summers are very hot

  • Book your Monahans stop in advance during peak fall travel — sites fill up at Sealy Street

Reserve your overnight stop at Sealy Street RV Park online or call (432) 943-2077. We're right off I-20 in Monahans and we'll have a site ready for you.
